Dentsu secures Copa America coverage in Czech Republic with O2 TV
O2, the telecoms group and pay-television broadcaster in the Czech Republic, has filled a void in its summer scheduling by snapping up rights to the Copa America, South American soccer's national teams tournament.
O2 TV will show all 26 games from the competition in Brazil exclusively.
Marek Kindernay, chief executive of O2 TV Sport, said: “Copa América will present the world's biggest stars of football. Watching the performances of Brazil, Argentina or Chile will be a great attraction for Czech fans. In addition, when a summer break is taking place in most competitions we broadcast a complete tournament, including semi-finals and finals, for a total of 26 live shows.”
O2 TV holds exclusive rights to domestic soccer's top-tier Czech First League to 2021-22 and the Uefa Champions League, European soccer's elite clubs competition, in both Czech Republic and Slovakia to 2020-21.
Global commercial rights and broadcast rights distribution for the Copa America are being handled by Dentsu, the Japanese advertising giant, on behalf of Conmebol, the South American soccer confederation.
Rights deals outside of South America have been struck in recent months with DAZN (Italy), Premier Sports (UK and Ireland), and BeIN Sports (Australia, New Zealand, France and Middle East and North Africa).
The tournament gets under way on 14 June when Brazil take on Bolivia.
All 10 South American nations will compete, as well as invited guests Japan and Qatar, in the tournament, which runs until 7 July.
