Saran Media lands Turkish rights to FIBA national team events
Saran Media, the Turkey-based agency, has today announced the acquisition of rights to major national team basketball events organised by FIBA, the sport’s world governing body, over the next two years.
The competitions include this year’s Women’s EuroBasket in Latvia and Serbia, which starts later this month, and Basketball World Cup in China, in August and September, the 2020 Olympic Qualifiers, the 2021 EuroBasket Qualifiers and the 2021 Men’s and Women’s EuroBasket tournaments.
The rights acquired include TV distribution and internet and mobile streaming, and complement Saran’s existing deal for the Basketball Champions League, the European clubs competition organised by FIBA and a group of national leagues.
Saran Media said that the national team events will be shown on its pay-television channels S Sport and S Sport 2, which will offer a majority of games live, plus delayed coverage of Turkey fixtures.
Through an agreement with Saran Media, live coverage of Turkey’s matches will be offered by NTV, the free-to-air commercial broadcaster owned by Dogus Group.
Selim Usta, the head of sports at Saran Media, said: “We are delighted to have expanded our FIBA BCL broadcast partnership to now include these major events. Through the joint coordinated broadcast of NTV and S Sport, Turkish basketball fans will have the best possible viewing experience.”
S Sport launched in March 2017 and now has more than 5.5 million subscribers across Turkish pay-TV platforms beIN, D-Smart, Turkcell TV+ and Tivibu.
Rights to FIBA national team events are distributed by FIBA Media, the joint venture set up by FIBA and DAZN (formerly Perform), the international digital sports content and media group, as part of a 17-year media rights agreement in 2016 worth close to €500 million (then $561 million).
