Marathonbet pick up shirt sponsorship baton at Sevilla
Marathonbet, the online betting operator, has signed a two-year deal to become the new main shirt sponsor of Spanish LaLiga club Sevilla.
The company replaces Playtika, the Chinese-owned mobile games developer, which has been the principal partner for the last two years.
The new contract, which comes into effect for the 2019-20 season, is worth €5 million ($5.7 million) per year, according to Spanish reports, and will mark the end of the previous sleeve sponsorship deal with Betfair.
As well as having pride of place on the Sevilla shirts, Marathonbet will have branding around the club’s Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, on interview backdrops and across digital platforms.
The deal also ensures that the company will maintain a front-of-shirt presence in LaLiga following the relegation of Catalan club Girona.
Sevilla, the winners of the Uefa Europa League on five occasions, finished sixth in the Spanish league last season, and have a new coach in Julen Lopetegui, formerly of Spain and Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have three vacancies in their sponsorship portfolio with shaving products manufacturer Gillette, German car maker Audi and Turkish tyre manufacturer Lassa having opted not to renew their deals with the Catalan giants, it has been reported.
The deals were worth a combined €15 million per year, according to Palco23.
The LaLiga champions, which have yet to comment on the report, presently generate €216.5 million per annum from sponsorship.
